Quality - Cutting Edge Cabinetry & Woodworking (CECW) builds cabinetry with their motto in mind “Quality Defined By Pride In Craftsmanship & Innovation.” We use many different materials to meet the criteria of the project in hand, but we never compromise our quality to meet those needs. The selected materials also meet our stringent quality requirements to provide the longest service from the product. All of our products are made in Graham County, Kansas with the highest quality materials sourced from around the World. We like to use domestic sources if available, but turn to European products as required. Jason prides himself with precision and employs this by using highly engineered equipment along with the vast array of skills he has acquired. His knowledge of materials and techniques help him build cabinetry with the best method for the design. We invite you to scroll through and learn more about our cabinetry and visit our other pages to see what sets Cutting Edge Cabinetry & Woodworking apart from the others.

Construction Styles - Cabinetry can be made in many styles to meet the clients desire. Two main styles CECW uses are:

  • Face Frame - This style incorporates a 3/4” thick solid wood frame around the perimeter of the cabinet box on the front side. This has been the traditional method for cabinetry. A main disadvantage of this style is the wasted space from the width of the frame pieces. Most frames are 1-1/2” wide, so each cabinet would have 1-1/2” less usable width over a frameless cabinet.
  • Frameless - This style uses no frame on front side of the cabinet box. The edges of the box are banded with matching material to cover all exposed edges. Doors overlap this edge with a minimal 1/8” reveal between doors and drawer fronts. This is a European design and gives the cabinetry nice clean lines. Some advantages of this design would be increased storage space due to the fact that no frame overhangs or obstructs usable space.

Cutting Edge Cabinetry & Woodworking has been building cabinetry in the form of a “hybrid” design for many years. This design focuses on the traditional Face Frame style, but incorporates advantages from the Frameless style. We gain more useable space by removing dividing styles and rails in the face frame. The meeting doors and drawers carry a common 1/8” reveal between each for a very attractive look.

Finishing - Many finishing options are available from CECW. Jason has chosen to use newer advanced water borne finishes for many reasons, but health and environmental concern are just a few. These newer finishes are just as or more durable than their solvent based counter parts. Some projects may require special needs, such as a specific solvent finish or European two component polyurethane for demanding durability. Accents such as glaze can also be applied if needed.

  • Translucent - Wood grain is accentuated by means of a pigmented stain or dye that is applied to the wood. Many color choices are available with the option to match existing wood work.
  • Opaque - Wood grain is invisible due to the opaque coloring of the wood. This is similar to a painted surface except we incorporate the color into a specific cabinet finish and apply by spray to provide all the benefits of a cabinet finish, but the solid color look such as white.

Construction Technique - European technology has played a large part in the way cabinetry is constructed at CECW. From the True 32 mm system to joinery with dowels. In fact, everything is doweled, if possible, for a simple, yet superior way to hold parts together with an all wood connection that is far stronger than screws or nails. Another great European feature of our cabinetry, is the adjustable feet installed on all lower cabinets. This assures the cabinet is leveled on all four corners. The front toe kick panel also attaches to these feet via clips, which provide access to under the cabinet in the future. By removing the toe kick, replacement flooring can seamlessly flow under the cabinets, as if it were the original floor. Also, this area is excellent for plumbing dishwashers and refrigerators by allowing the lines to be run under the cabinets with no obstructions. One of the most important features is the protection from water. By having the cabinet bases raised off the floor, water can not wick up the side panels, leading to destroyed cabinets if there were ever to be a leak from a water line. In addition, strength is always important when choosing cabinetry. That is why Cutting Edge Cabinetry & Woodworking uses thicker materials than most for cabinet construction. 3/4” material makes up most parts of the cabinetry, including side panels, bottoms, tops, mounting stretchers and backs on upper cabinets. Base cabinets are fitted with top stretchers, which fit the cabinet across the whole width at the front and back, instead of cheap corner blocks. Our base cabinets also include mounting stretchers at the top and bottom of the back, concealed behind a 1/4” panel.

Another great feature of the 32 mm system, is the way it integrates the hardware into the cabinet. Hinges and drawer slides mount into system holes, which provide equal spacing of all hardware components. The drawer slides also attach firmly against a solid cabinet side, the entire length of slide, providing solid mounting and trouble free service for years to come. Fully adjustable shelving is also utilized with the system holes by means of steel shelf supports.

Drawers - Several options are available for drawers at Cutting Edge Cabinetry & Woodworking. We like to use concealed drawer runner systems for a clean look, increased space, function, and durability. One of our more popular drawer systems, Grass Vionaro, features pre-formed metal drawer sides for a clean and modern look. Available in two colors: Graphite or Silver Gray, these drawers are built to last with durable coatings and strong connections. Paired with Grass DynaPro soft-close slides, opening and closing is smooth and quiet. Another popular drawer system utilizes the Grass Undermount Drawer Slide. This option provides a full extension drawer slide, with a soft-close action, on a wooden drawer box. Our wooden drawer boxes can be made from European Steamed Beech using finger-joint construction or many other materials including Multi-ply, Laminated PB, or Melamine PB by using dowel construction methods.

Doors - Concealed European style hinges provide a very attractive look with superior strength and function. We provide soft-close as a standard feature with our doors. Also, opening angles can be adjusted to meet requirements of adjacent cabinets or walls, to prevent interference. CECW offers almost unlimited choices for door styles to accommodate our customer’s preference. Here are a few choices we offer:

  • Mortise & Tenon - Most popular type of cabinet door in industry. Main element of this design is frame rails cope into the inside of the stiles. This allows end grain to be visible at the tops and bottoms of rails plus a noticeable 90° grain change where these stiles and rails meet. A flat main frame body is required with a profile on the inside and outside of the frame.
  • Mitered - More elegant design due to its 45° joints at the frame corners, similar to a picture frame. This allows the frame material to be as intricate as needed and gives a more continuous flow. Some designs allow for the outer edge of frame to be profiled.
